Illinois Radio Network
The News Source for Illinois Broadcasters
NEWS - Serving more than 50 stations, the Illinois Radio Network is the state’s preeminent news and information source. Utilizing digital technology to record breaking news and send it to our affiliates. We go to great lengths to have the best reporters in the business covering news as it happens.
The process starts early each morning when IRN feeds stories that occurred overnight and late the day before to our member stations to help them inform their listeners during the most important part of the broadcast day. From our offices in Chicago where Jim Anderson, Dave Schwan, and Mark Vasko have instant access to lawmakers and news breakers throughout the day. In Springfield Dave Dahl keeps track of the political landscape. Our news feeds and newscasts during the day give local stations updates on the stories which matter to the public. The day ends, often very late in the evening, after the last story is filed, the last quote recorded.
SPORTS - Illinois residents also care about their sports. IRN is committed to bring listeners up-to-the-minute coverage of college, high school and professional teams. Sports Director Jason Goch along with Jim Talamonti and Brad Robinson are busy following the exploits of the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Rams and Bears. There is also extensive coverage of the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois Universities. The IRN Prep Report is the state’s only weekly radio report devoted entirely to high school sports.
AFFILIATES - Finally, we count on our affiliates to contribute breaking stories of regional interest. Whether it’s protest marches in Decatur, flooding along the river, or church bombings near Danville, we regularly hear from our affiliates about stories that are bigger than their coverage area.
IRN has been in existence in some form for more than 30 years. It is officially Saga Radio Networks, LLC, d.b.a. Illinois Radio Network. Though the name has changed a few times, the commitment to excellence is strong. IRN consistently complements the news departments of local stations, and we plan to be a vital link in their operations for many years to come.
